Arturo Castro, MD, is a fellowship-trained endocrinologist at Internal Medicine Practices with locations in Lady Lake and Tavares, Florida. He has over 20 years of experience in internal medicine and endocrinology, with a passion for providing care to individuals in need.
As a native of Peru, Dr. Castro received his medical degree from the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru, where he ranked in the top 15% of his class. During this time, he completed a rotating internship in medicine, surgery, obstetrics, and pediatrics at Petro Peru Hospital in Talara, Peru. Before relocating to the United States, he served at the Ministry of Health, Rural Medical Service in Lima, providing care to medically underserved communities.
Dr. Castro went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, and later the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He served in several settings throughout this time, gaining knowledge in multiple aspects of medicine, including the Family Health Medical Center, Rural Medical Service in Wautoma, Wisconsin.
After relocating to Florida, he began work in endocrinology, serving Northeast Florida Endocrine and Diabetes Associates in Jacksonville, Florida, the Endocrine Clinic of West Florida in Brooksville, Florida, and Indian River Endocrinology in Vero Beach, Florida. Additionally, Dr. Catro served alongside the teams at Martin Health Physician Group in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Coastal Endocrinology in Vero Beach, Florida.
Eager to learn, Dr. Castro also contributed to several research projects with the Ministry of Health in Lima, Peru; the University of Tennessee; and the University of Wisconsin. These studies focused on the investigation of an epidemic viral fever in the jungle of Peru, patients with polycystic ovarian disease, and the effects of isoprenoids in cancer cells.
In his free time, Dr. Castro enjoys running and participating in martial arts. He appreciates collaborating with the team at Internal Medicine Practices and creating positive relationships with his patients.
